This was a sick company in the private sector in the name and style of Bengal Immunity Company Ltd. The management of the company was taken over the Central Government. A new public sector company in the name and style of Bengal Immunity Ltd. was incorporated on the 1st October, 1984. The company had two
manufacturing units, one each at Baranagar at Calcutta (West Bengal) and at Dehradun (UP).
The main products of the company were sera, Vaccines and Toxiodes with its own knowhow and
indigenous raw materials. The Company was declared sick by Board of Industrial and Financial Reconstruction (BIFR) on the 9th March, 1993. BIFR approved a revival package for this sick company on 3rd January, 1995. On 5.4.1999, BIFR declared the Scheme sanctioned on 3.1.1995 as failed. In its hearing held on 9th November, 2001, BIFR directed the Operating Agency to issue advertisement for change of management. OA received one offer in response to the advertisement but this offer did not find favour in the joint meeting taken by the OA on 28.8.02. In its hearing held on 13.9.02 BIFR formed its prima facie opinion to issue show cause notice to all concerned to winding up the company. This opinion has been confirmed by BIFR on 25th February, 2003. Thereafter obtaining the approval of the government in April 2003, it has been decided to close the operations of BIL and introduce VSS in BIL. Accordingly, all the employees of BIL have been given VSS. BIL is closed and is before the High Court for the appointment of a Liquidator for winding up proceedings. |
